Ethel Anna Adam Eppley July 18, 1926 – November 5, 2016 Ethel Anna Adam Eppley, 90, passed away in Boulder, Colorado shortly after suffering a stroke. Born in Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania, Ethel was one of seven children born to Alfred D. and Annie S. Adam. She is survived by one brother Myers Adam, and his wife Mabel, who continue to live on the family homestead. Ethel is survived by her husband, Robert DeVenney Eppley, M.D. who lives in Louisville, Colorado. They were married at Zion Church in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1953. Ethel and Bob lived in Elyria, Ohio for over fifty years where they raised four children: Robert A. Eppley, M.D. of Orinda, CA (Karen), Mary Susan Eppley Engelmann, RN, MSN of Boulder, CO (Richard), James A. Eppley, M.D. of Union, KY (Susan), and Matthew J. Eppley, M.D. of Hockessin, DE (Jane). Ethel was predeceased by an infant son, Eric. They have eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ethel graduated from Perry Township High School in 1944, and earned a teaching degree from Kutztown University. She taught art prior to starting her family while Bob completed his medical education and residency, and later earned a degree in German from Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio. Ethel was a dedicated mother and a gifted quilter. She was well known for her cooking, crafting, and needlework, all often with Pennsylvania Dutch themes and motifs. Her love of home, church, and her German heritage was evident throughout her life. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Zion Church, Hamburg. Visitation with the family will begin at 2 p.m. Ethel will be laid to rest in the adjacent Zion Church cemetery with her parents, siblings, and extended family. This was her final wish.
