Esther M. Palm, 89, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away August 25, 2008 in her Wernersville residence. Her husband, James C. Palm died February 28, 1977. Born in Centre Township, she was a daughter of the late Ammon G. and Essie E. (Moyer) Simmon. She was employed for 23 years by the former Schoener's Candy; King-Cup Schoener Candy and Schrafft's Candy, West Reading, as a foiling machine operator retiring in 1981. Esther was a member of the Executive Board of the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Union, Local 289, now local 6, for 13 years. She is survived by two sons, James C. Jr., Oley and Martin A., Sinking Spring; and a daughter, Carol S. Schlachter, Hamburg. Other survivors include two brothers, Robert L. Simmon, Reading and Sterling C. Simmon, Wernersville; five grandchildren, Stephanie Randazzo, Michael Schlachter, Martin Palm, Jr., Brian Schlachter and Matthew Palm; a step-granddaughter, Sherry Brown; eight great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
