Ernst R.L. Reuther

Ernst R.L. "Ernie" Reuther, 68, of Reading, passed away March 31, 2014 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1945 in Chester, he was a son of the late Harold H. and Matilda O. (Balog) Reuther.

He was a 1963 and 1964 graduate of Wyomissing High School.

Ernie worked at various restaurants in the Reading area; owned and operated Reading's first hot dog stand at the court house, and later was employed as a produce driver for Karetas Foods.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a medic in Vietnam.

Ernie had a great sense of humor and loved meeting and talking to the people of Berks County; he knew nearly everyone in town. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his two children: Erik William Reuther; and Nancy Anne, wife of Harold Simpson, all of Spartanburg, SC. Also surviving are his sister, Christina G., wife of Donald L. Matthews, Chester Springs; his grandchildren: Tylan Reign Simpson and Niesha Nicole Simpson; his great-grandson, Carter K. Ray; and his near and dear cousin, Sonja Chamides, Sinking Spring.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
