Ernest M. Mertz

Ernest M. Mertz, 78, of Wyomissing, died January 11, 2008 in Mifflin Center.

He was the husband of Nancy J. (Krug) Mertz, whom he married on May 17, 1952.

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Harrison W. and Helen E. (Kunkel) Mertz.

Ernest was a self employed appliance repairman from 1988 until his retirement in 2004. Previously, he worked for A.M. Krug, Inc for 33 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served from 1954 to 1956 in Panama.

Ernest was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

He is also survived by his son, James A. Mertz, Saylorsburg and his daughter, Carol J. wife of Joseph Spontarelli, Midlothian, VA. There is one brother, Earl H. husband of Doris Mertz, Kutztown and one sister, Ethel S. widow of Robert Heffner, Fleetwood. Two grandchildren, Gina and Adam Spontarelli also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius RCC 2810 St. Albans Drive Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Church at the above address. Edward J.
