Ernest Charles Hess

Ernest Charles Hess Sr., 84, of Laureldale, died November 27, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center.

He was the husband of Jacklyn Ann (Kessler) Hess, whom he married October 8, 1960.

Born in Maxatawny Township, Berks County on January 19, 1930, he was a son of the late Edwin and Helen (Bortz) Hess.

He was employed 43 years with Bachman Bakery, Muhlenberg Township before retiring as a yard jockey in 1998.

Ernest was a Navy Veteran, where he served during the Korean Conflict on the USS Worcester CL-144

He was a member of Teamsters Local #429 and a life member of the Temple Fire Company.

Ernest enjoyed camping and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.

He is also survived by two daughters: Michele D. (Hess) Fleischood of Laureldale and Lori L. (Hess), wife of Michael A. Sedar of Leesport.

Other survivors include seven siblings: Madeline (Hess) Young of Reading; Edward, husband of Barbara Hess of Bern Township; Sarah (Hess), wife of Raymond Stoudt of Ehprata; Patricia (Hess) Franklin of Muhlenberg Township; Robert, widower of Doris Hess of Shillington; Nancy (Hess), wife of David Clark of Stoney Creek and Donald Hess of Reading.

There is also a granddaughter, Somer L. Fleischood of Laureldale.

Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
