Ernest J. "Ernie" Demetriades, 82, of Wyomissing, PA passed away peacefully, January 6, 2007 surrounded by his family. Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late James and Helen (Antoniou) Demetriades, who came to America from Salonica, Greece. A Syracuse University graduate, Ernie received his Civil Engineering degree in 1947. He began his professional career with the NYS DOT and is credited with designing portions of the NYS Thruway. He contributed to the design of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Plattsburg Air Force Base. He was a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor, and past President of the AGC. He also served on the Zoning and Planning Boards of the town of Phelps, NY for many years. Ernie retired in 1996 as Vice President and General Manager of Elderlee, Inc., Oaks Corners, NY where he was employed for 33 years. Deeply loved and sadly missed by his loving wife, Olga, his children Francine Harrington of Syracuse, NY; James of Delmar, NY; Susan McCauley of Wynnewood, PA; Ernest T. of Wilmington, DE; and Athena Elzer of Wyomissing, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Kaliope Nicolaos of Syracuse, NY and six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Gethsemane Mausoleum Chapel, Reading, PA.
