Eric Martin Pfennig, 90, of Laureldale died October 8, 2011 in Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Betty Frances (Fidler) Pfennig of 64 years.

Born April 14, 1921 in Saxony, Germany, he was a son of the late Max Hugo and Ella Minna (Dietrich) Pfennig.

Eric was a graduate of Reading High School and attended Rider College and Albright College.

He was employed as a supervisor in the billet yard with the former Carpenter Steel, now Carpenter Technology for 35 years, retiring May 5, 1983.

Eric served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

Eric was a former mason.

He was a former MTAA baseball coach, Cub Scout leader with Troop 124 and Boy Scout leader with Troop 124.

Eric loved to golf, enjoyed traveling and most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two children: Christine T. Pfennig of Exton, Chester County and Gregory M., husband of Theresa M. (Montefusco) Pfennig of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include four grandchildren: Bradford S., husband of Amanda (Smith) Pfennig; Lindsay K. (Koch), wife of Todd Barshinger; Kristin T. (Pfennig), wife of Thomas York and Jessica L. (Pfennig), wife of Joseph Skelly and three great grandchildren, Logan A. Barshinger, Addison E. Barshinger and Aria E. Skelly and a nephew, Rudy A., husband of Alexandra J. Pfennig of Laureldale.

Eric was predeceased by a brother, Rudy A. Pfennig.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
