Elwood Winfield DeLong, 93, formerly of Sinking Spring, died February 8, 2011 in Mifflin Center.
His wife, Irene Mary (Soltes) DeLong, died April 21, 2001.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Thomas DeLong and Sadie (Lamp) DeLong Moyer.
Elwood was a Technical Sgt. for the 8th Air Force serving in England and the United States during WWII. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in the service.
He was employed from 1964 until his retirement in 1985 for Hoffman Industries. Prevoiusly he worked for Caron Spitting Mills, Robesonia.
Elwood enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He will always be remembered for being kind and helpful to many of his relatives and friends.
Elwood is survived by his daughter, Deborah M., wife of Douglas W. Nein, Spring Township; his two sisters, Anna M., widow of Claude Wert, Cumru Twp. and Vallie, widow of Claude Reich, Reading. Two grandchildren, Melissa and Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was predeceased by his son Bryan M. DeLong; two brothers, Charles DeLong and Zelus DeLong; and his sister, Fern Worth.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Sinking Spring Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
