Mrs. Elsie Foushee Timberlake of Winston-Salem, NC, died October 21st 2015 at the Highlands at Wyomissing retirement community in Wyomissing, PA. She was born in Roxboro, NC in 1926, the daughter of the late Ruth Tillman Foushee and Claude Roy Foushee. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Talmage Timberlake to whom she was married for fifty six years, and by her brothers Roy Edward Foushee, Sammy Claude Foushee, Merritt Thomas Foushee, Maynard Walton Foushee, and Hugh Gardner Foushee.
While living in Salisbury North Carolina from the late 1940's through the mid 1950's, Mrs. Timberlake was a member of the Salisbury Junior Woman's Club and the Salisbury First United Methodist Church where she and her husband served as youth counselors. After she and her husband moved to Winston-Salem in 1956, Mrs. Timberlake joined Maple Springs United Methodist Church where she remained a dedicated member for over fifty years. She was a member of the Katherine Ward Circle and the Wesleyan Sunday School, served on the Board of Trustees, and volunteered with Martha's Ministry, the sewing group, and the chicken pie fundraiser. She envisioned the importance of having a Columbarium at her church, and helped with the fund raising, design and construction of the Maple Springs United Methodist Church Columbarium, completed in 2002.
In addition to her church activities, Mrs. Timberlake was a lifelong reader, loved flowers and had a special talent for arranging them, loved to play bridge and to spend time with friends in her bridge group, loved to travel, and enjoyed playing golf for many years as a member of the Pine Brook women's 9-hole league. She loved long walks on the beach and spent many family vacations there with her husband, daughter, granddaughters, and son-in-law. She evolved into an enthusiastic sports fan as she attended countless NC State and Wake Forest football and basketball games with her husband and daughter, and often fondly recalled attending the 1974 men's basketball national championship game won by NC State.
Mrs. Timberlake was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who spent as much time with her family as possible and especially enjoyed time with her granddaughters Lindsay and Kate, and Kate's husband Ian. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lynn Timberlake Sakmann and son-in-law Charles A. Sakmann III of Wyomissing, PA; her granddaughter Lindsay Timberlake Sakmann of Wyomissing, PA; granddaughter Katherine Claire Gray and husband Ian DeLain Gray, MD, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her sister Ann Foushee Solomon and brother-in-law Benjamin Solomon of Roxboro, NC; her sister Arlene Foushee Long of Roxboro, NC; her brother Terry Tillman Foushee of Roxboro, NC; and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews whom she loved.
