Ellen E. Weirich

Ellen E. "Chippy" Weirich, 89 of Hamburg, died July 27th in Manor Care, Sinking Spring. She was the widow of Jack W. Weirich who died February 28th, 2001. Ellen was born in Shoemakersville and was the daughter of the late DeCosta and Elizabeth (Rothermel) Shearer. Ellen was the valedictorian of Perry High School, class of 1941. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. She worked for many years at both Hamburg Knitting Mills and Allen – Sherman Hoff both in Hamburg. Ellen was also a member of the Hamburg Sewing Circle. This was a group of women who gathered every Friday evening to sew while their husbands were serving their country during WWII. This tradition continued for many years, even after the war was over. Ellen is survived by 1 son, Jack W. Weirich, Jr. husband of Kathleen R. Weirich of Wilmington, Delaware, 2 sisters, Irene Kramer of Blandon, Dorothy Wessner of Shoemakersville and 1 brother, Daniel Shearer of Flagstaff, Az. and a daughter in law Linda Weirich of Hamburg. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Ellen was predeceased by three sons, Scott A. Weirich, August 10, 1980, Jeffrey L. Weirich, October 15, 2007 and Richard A. Weirich, December, 1 2009. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Noon from The Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St. Hamburg, PA. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern PA.
