Elizabeth S. Sponagle

Elizabeth Seidel (Rapp) "Betty" Sponagle, 96, died March 22, 2009 at 3:50 am in her Phoebe Berks Village residence.

She was married in 1963 to the late Alvin W. Sponagle, who died in December 1997.

Born September 26, 1912 in her Reading home, she was a daughter of the late Herbert M. Sr. and Helen (Seidel) Rapp.

She was a graduate of Reading High School and Temple University.

Elizabeth was a member of Calvary Reformed Church, Reading.

She was employed 29 years as a dental hygienist with Dr. Elwood B. Heindel. She was also employed by Daniel Boone School District, in the same capacity, from 1956 until her retirement in 1963.

Elizabeth is survived by a step-son; Alvin B. husband of Ada Sponagle of Harleysville, Montgomery County and three step-grandchildren: Anne Ilgen, Susan Bragner and Barbara Miller and five step great grandchildren.

Other survivors include a nephew; David H. Sr., husband of Cindy S. (Speck) Rapp of Spring Township; great nephews; David Jr and Troy Bowers and great nieces; Erica Robinson and Amber Bowers and two great great nieces and three great great nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother; Herbert M. "Bud" Rapp, Jr., who died August 16, 1981.

Services will be Thursday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, with the Rev. Stephen Ohnsman officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. For online condolences, visit www.kuhnfuneralhome.com
