Elizabeth E. Shoemaker

Elizabeth E. "Betsy" Shoemaker, 81, of Shoemakersville passed away peacefully on July 22, 2017, at her daughter's home. She was the fiancée of the late Philip G. Racine.

Born at home in Shoemakersville, Betsy was the daughter of Mae S. (Lengel) and the late Therman C. Noecker. Betsy was a member of the class of 1954 of Perry High School, Shoemakersville. She earned her bachelors of science degree in education from Mansfield University in 1958. Betsy was a home economics teacher for 12 years. She then worked as a nursing aide at the Hamburg Center for 25 years, retiring in 1998.

Betsy was an avid reader. She also loved working in her flower garden. She found enjoyment in doing crossword puzzles and traveling.

Betsy is survived by her beloved daughter, Elsa A., wife of Fletcher T. Betts. She was predeceased by her daughter, Amy E. Cochran, who passed away in 1981. Betsy is also survived by her brother, Robert T. Noecker, husband of Vernie. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kayla, and Mariah, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Tristan and Kayliana.

A private graveside service for the immediate family will be celebrated for Betsy at the convenience of the family at St. Luke's Union Church Cemetery, Shoemakersville. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home (Temple), located at 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA 19560.
