Elizabeth Merkel

Elizabeth Catherine (Etzel) Merkel, 89, formerly of Temple, died August 30, 2009 in ManorCare Health Services, Sinking Spring.

She was the widow of Charles H. Merkel, who died December 7, 2006.

Born March 31, 1920 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John and Susanna (Kotch) Etzel.

Elizabeth was employed as an officer worker for the former Temple Apparel.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Reading.

Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy (Etzel), wife of Ray Zerby of Wernersville and Joyce (Etzel), wife of Stanley Sweitzer of Laureldale.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was predeceased by four brothers, Robert Etzel, Edward Etzel, William Schlenner and John Schlenner and a sister, Marie Weber.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
