Elizabeth M. Lutz

Elizabeth M. "Betty" (James) Lutz, 92, of Hamburg, passed away August 27, 2021, at Laurel Center.

Betty was the widow of Sterling H. Lutz, who died on June 24, 2012.

Born in Muhlenberg Township, she was a daughter of the late Edward N. and Blanche A. (Jacoby) James.

She attended Ontelaunee School.

Betty was employed by Crown Knitting Mills, Mohrsville for many years as a sewing machine operator. She also worked for Hamburg State School in housekeeping.

Betty was a warm, caring, selfless person with a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. She and her friends would frequently visit other senior citizens who were homebound to bring them cheer and a helping hand where needed.

A true fighter with a giant spirit to match Betty was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother; her friendly personality, caring nature and love of her family will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by five children: Kenneth James, Shoemakersville, Sue Berg, Leesport, Bonnie Correll, Shoemakersville, Michael Lutz, Hamburg and David Lutz, Shoemakersville; one sister, Margie Dissinger, Hamburg; three grandchildren: Dawn Tilden, Alan Hartman II and Branden Berg; 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by six siblings: Harvey "Hank" James, Mildred Dissinger, Dorothy Delong, Alice Snyder, Alma Behlor and Edward "Eddie" James and three grandchildren: Troy Hartman, Bradley Correll and Ashley Correll.

Services will be Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home Inc, 40 S. Fourth St, Hamburg, PA 19526 with burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
