Elizabeth "Betty" J. (McDonough) Berger, 81, of Mohnton, passed away on June 12, 2026, at Reading Hospital.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Priscilla M. (Zito) McDonough. Betty was a 1963 graduate of Reading High School.
In 1965, she married the love of her life, David O. Berger. Together they shared more than 60 years, celebrating that milestone anniversary last year. Betty met David while working as a candy packer for Luden's, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and family.
Throughout her life, Betty worked a variety of jobs, including at Walden Books in the Berkshire Mall, as an inspector at Sharpoint, as a bank teller, and as a lunch aide in the Wilson School District. Her most important role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them, whether she was having family over to the house on weekends for poker and fun, going "up home" to David's Schuylkill County places, traveling for her daughters' baton events, or attending her grandkids' and great grandkids' events, family vacations and camping. She always found new friends and chatted to strangers all the time.
Betty enjoyed dancing, especially whenever Erich Cowalla and the Uptown Band were performing locally. She treasured time spent with loved ones, creating memories that will be carried forward by generations of her family.
Betty is survived by her husband, David; her two daughters, Desiree A. Berger of Wilmington, Delaware, and widow of David - Colleen M. Moyer of West Lawn and her daughter-in-law Rose of Port Charlotte, FL; her grandchildren, Destinee (Kevin) Deely, Candice (Mike) Gallagher, Danielle (Michael) Roche, Dominic (Kaity) Moyer, Olivia Hughes, Taylor (Brock) Akerman, Ryan (Megan) Miggins, Quaicha Martinez aka Crackers, Luis Martinez aka Anibal, Rose Martinez aka Princess and Eric Miggins; and her 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Janet Grube of Muhlenberg and Kathleen (Kit) Reed of Reading.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, William O. Berger, her daughter-in-law Andrea Salerno-Berger; her brothers, Irvin, Charles, Raymond, and Robert McDonough; and her sisters, Patricia Kipp and Barbara Blankenbiller.
