Elizabeth Anne "Betty" (Adams) Gross peacefully joined the angels in heaven, surrounded by her loving family at home, on February 15, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Joseph L. Gross for 58 years, devoted mother of seven, grandmother of nineteen, and became a great-grandmother shortly before her death.
Born April 25, 1928, Betty was the daughter of the late Raymond S. Adams and Elizabeth M.(Reusing) Adams. She was a 1946 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Betty held a variety of jobs, with her longest period of employment at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center retiring in 1985.
Betty was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish. She loved visiting with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed reading, knitting and doing puzzles. She was a tireless volunteer throughout her life in many community organizations, including Camp Fire Girls, Catholic Women's Club of Berks County, Holy Name High School Band Boosters, and the Reading Liederkranz Singers. Betty's humble love and selfless commitment to others was a beautiful expression of her faith.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by seven children: Cecilia, wife of Robert Rose, of Plainville, MA; Marian, wife of William Cain, of Exeter Township; Karl, husband of Jolene, of York; Anne Melito, of Perkasie; Eric, husband of Erica, of Sellersville; Amy, wife of Joseph McMillan, of Greenville, NC; and Judith, wife of John Jones, of Wyomissing. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, her sister Agnes (Adams), widow of Jacob Bohner, of Reading; and her brother Raymond Adams, of Springfield, OH.
Elizabeth was predeceased by two sisters: Rosemary (Adams) Forester and Margaret (Adams) Gottschlich.
