Eleanore V. Matthai

Eleanore Virginia Matthai, 84 of East Coventry Township, Chester County, died September 5, 2009 in her residence.

She was the widow of Heinz Max Matthai, who died May 4, 1992.

Born August 26, 1925 in Wyomissing, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Hess and Leona Mae (Kunkel) Gabel.

Eleanore was a 1943 graduate of Wyomissing High School.

She was employed in the claims department of Traveler's Insurance from 1971, until her retirement in 1986.

Surviving is a daughter, Judy A. (Matthai) Romich of Columbia, MD and a son, Erich H. Matthai of East Coventry Township, Chester County.

Other survivors include seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Eleanore was predeceased by a brother Kenneth Gabel in 1961.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
