Eleanore Bocian

Eleanore (Guzowski) Bocian, 92, passed away on December 22, 2023 at her Reading residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Bocian for 67 years until his passing on July 16, 2017.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Maximillian and Helen (Szafran) Guzowski. Eleanore cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved spending as much time as possible with them. Those left to treasure Eleanore's memory are her children: Daughter Helen (Bocian) wife of Tim Hummel of Sinking Spring, Sons: Gene Bocian of Cumru Twp., Michael husband of Katrina Bocian of Charlotte NC, Richard Bocian of Chattanooga TN, Blaze husband of Susan Bocian of Catasauqua PA and Anthony husband of Sandra Madeira Bocian of Reading and her grandchildren: Samantha Peterson, Richard Bocian, Katie Orth, Zachariah Bocian, Julia Hummel, Lauren Rienzi, Veronica Bocian, Abby Bocian, Adan Bocian, and 17 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Springer; her children Joseph in 2020 husband of Eva Bocian, Edward Bocian in 2003, and Brian Bocian in 1983; and her grandson, Matthew Bocian in 2009.

She was a faithful parishioner of the former St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Millmont and was a parishioner of St. John Baptist de La Salle R.C. Church, Shillington. She was a member of the Union of Polish Women and the Polish American Heritage Society of Berks County.

Eleanore and her husband owned and operated The Stork Hotel from 1955 to 1996 and established and owned The Cozy Corner Lounge from 1974 to 1976. They also owned standardbred race horses during the 1960's and 1970's. In her retirement, Eleanore enjoyed the theatre and taking trips and cruises both domestic and abroad with her late husband. She also enjoyed getting together with her ladies group attending dinners, celebrating their birthdays and ringing in the New Year.

She will be sadly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2024 at St. John's Baptist De La Salle at 42 Kerrick Rd, Shillington PA 19607. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until 10:00AM immediately followed by the service. The burial will be held privately at the request of the family.
