Eleanor Johnson, 77, of Whitfield, passed away at home on February 22, 2012.

She was the loving wife of Gustav W. Johnson. They were married on May 5, 1956 and celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Ethel (Macsuga) O'Brien.

Eleanor was a 1954 graduate of George Washington High School, NY, and was employed by Western Electric Co., NY, and last employed by Flemington Fashions, Reading.

Eleanor enjoyed cooking, traveling, shopping and was a truly thoughtful person who was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors. She was dedicated to her church, St. Ignatius Loyola, Sinking Spring, and to volunteer service at Berks Heim for many years.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children: Robert F. Johnson, husband of Cheryl L. Johnson, Sinking Spring; Kenneth M. Johnson, fiance of Karen Moleski, West Lawn and Carolyn J. DiFilippo, wife of Thomas P. DiFilippo, Morrisville. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Heza and brother-in-law, Victor Johnson, both in NY.

A viewing will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 4 Park Rd., Suite 205A, Wyomissing, PA 19610 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
