Eleanor E. Hanisko

Eleanor Elizabeth (Hemerka) Hanisko, 86, passed away October 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township due to congestive heart failure. Previously, she had resided at Grandview Manor Assisted Living, Fleetwood, for almost six years before moving to Berks Heim in 2007.

Her husband of 45 years, Joseph J. Hanisko, passed away May 1990.

Born, educated and married in Shamokin, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Theresa (Lukowski) Hemerka.

Eleanor was employed as a sample presser with David Crystal, retiring in 1986. She previously worked at Arkay Knitting Mills.

She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park. She had a great love of God, family and friends.

Eleanor's enjoyment was staying in contact with her family and friends and playing bingo. She appreciated the wonderful care and kindness showed to her at Berks Heim, previously at Grandview Manor Assisted Living and most recently at St. Joseph Medical Center.

She is survived by her only daughter, La Ray E. (Hanisko), wife of Gary R. Johnson, Sr. of Ontelaunee Township.

Other survivors include a granddaughter Lorie A. Johnson, partner of Scott Heller of Flying Hills; a grandson Gary R., Jr., husband of Brenda Johnson of Laureldale; her beloved great granddaughter Jessica Faith Johnson and three nephews.

Eleanor was predeceased by a sister Agnes Bosch, a brother Edward Hemerka and her beloved pet dog Bow.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
