Edwin H. Leiby, 83, Shillington, husband of Mildred Babb (Hassel) passed away June 19, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Exeter Township.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 36 years, Joyce (Dietrich) and a great-grandchild.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marietta (Christine) Leiby. Edwin was employed for over 36 years at Narrow Fabric Corporation, West Reading as a manager of the loom department.
He is survived by a son, Richard Leiby and wife Marlene, Moselem Springs; a daughter Barbara Keim and husband Glenn, Walnuttown; two step-daughters; Sue Babb, wife of Fred Olschner of Watertown, MA and Judy, wife of Arthur Werner, Wilmington, Delaware; four grandchildren, plus seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother George Leiby, Kutztown & his wife Geraldine; sisters Marilyn, widow of Stanley Bond, Fleetwood; Joanne, wife of Donald Kanouse, Sparta, New Jersey; and Jane, widow of James Kemmener, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
Ed was a member of the Keystone Fire Company of Kutztown, the Berks Community Hiking Club, the Fleetwood American Legion, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. He played shortstop for a Northern Lehigh Baseball team for many years and was an avid golfer and bowler. Ed was a Navy veteran of WWII and was given an honorable discharge as a Coxswain. He served on a sub chaser for convoys running from Cuba to Panama in the Atlantic.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Whitehall. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
