Edwin J. "Ed" Heck JR., 65 of Hamburg died December 26th in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the husband of Glenna (Shugarts) Heck. Ed was born in Pottsville and was the son of the late Edwin J. Heck, SR. and Mildred M. (Moyer) Heck. He graduated from Hamburg Area High School in 1966 where he excelled in basketball. Heck was chosen for the All-Western Division All Star Basketball Team and also for the All Berks Conference Dream Team for the 1965-66 season. He attended Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh for a year. Ed then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He worked for Met-Ed for 30 plus years, last working as a line supervisor. Upon retirement he worked part time for Nester Sanitation for 10 years. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. Ed was a life member of the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-Timers, Reading Chapter. His additional memberships included Hamburg Game Association, Vaux Lodge 406 F. & A.M. and Shartlesville Community Fire Company, # 1. In addition to his wife Ed is survived by 2 sons, Edwin J. Heck, III and his wife Karen, Hamburg, James W. Heck husband of Necole Heck, Jacksonville, NC. and 4 grandchildren Amanda, Jared, Kylee and Madison. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31st at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., Hamburg. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:30 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Online condolences may be expressed at www.burkeydriscoll.com.
