Edward H. Treat, 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in his Myerstown residence. He was the husband of Milicent L. (Peters) Treat.
Born in West Reading on February 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Daniel H. and Edna R. (Gerber) Treat. He was a 1953 graduate of Reading High School and attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.
Ed was a member of St. Andrews UCC, Reading.
He was employed by Gilbert Associates, interrupted with a brief stint at Polymer Corporation, in the electrical engineering and sanitary department until 1964. From 1965 to his retirement in 1996, he was the Municipal Manager for the Borough of Myerstown.
Ed was a life member of many environmental and emergency service organizations. He was the Executive Secretary of the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association, Inc., from 1970 until his 2nd retirement in December 2006.
Ed was also very active with the fire departments in Reading, Lebanon, and Myerstown, having held many positions with the Keystone Hook and Ladder, Myerstown, PA, including Chief Engineer.
Ed served his country in the US Army, with the 904th Field Artillery battalion, 79th Infantry Division, and successor units. Ed was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant, chief of battalion survey.
In addition to his wife, Milicent, he is survived by their daughter, Kimberly L., wife of Randall Heffner, of West Lawn, and his grandson, Shawn R. Heffner. He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne E. Lehr of Longs, SC, and Pamela A. Brady of Gilbertsville.
Friends and family are invited to visit with Ed's family on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial services will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading. Services are private at the discretion of Ed's family.
