Edward J. Swist, 78, of Downing Street, formerly of Oley Street, Wyomissing, died Sept. 17 at 8:25 p.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient one week.
He was the husband of Josephine A. (Nowinski) Swist.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John and Agnes (Kendzior) Swist.
Swist was employed for 22 years as a laborer by Reading Sheet Metal Co., retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, where he was an usher.
Swist was a life member of the Russel M. Butterweck Detachment Marine Corps League of Berks County, Polish Falcons Alliance of Berks County, Berkshire Heights Fire Company and Pulaski Post 929 American Legion, Reading.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Swist is also survived by a daughter, Suzanne M. (Swist) Bortz, Reading.
Other survivors include a granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Reading. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
