Edward "Ned" Joseph Moran, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in his Wyomissing residence. He was the loving husband of Margaret Anne (Hauff) Moran, with whom he just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.Â
Born in the Bronx, NY, he was a son of the late Edward Joseph, Sr. and Florence (Hughes) Moran. After serving in the US Navy, Ned embarked on a long career as a law enforcement officer, retiring as a sergeant from the New York City Police Department after 26 years. He and his wife relocated their family to Pennsylvania shortly thereafter, and, due to his love for movies, he became an assistant manager for Video Vibes and Blockbuster Video in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.Â
Ned was a gregarious Irishman known for his generosity of spirit. In retirement, he volunteered with youth through the Search for Christian Maturity program. He also gave his time driving fellow parishioners to church and was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society taking patients to their treatment appointments.
Ned was a man who loved his family, a true example of love and caregiving. He modeled this for his children when he cared for his own parents into their 90's. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren's activities, attending their games, recitals, and plays, even when it meant travelling a great distance. As their "Opa", he was extremely proud of their talents and accomplishments, and he was their favorite babysitter.Â
Ned was proceeded in death by his sister, Regina Davis.Â
In addition to his wife, Ned is survived by his sister, Barbara Fallon of Chester, NY, and his brother, Brian Moran, husband of Irene, of Southbury, CT; a son, Edward K. Moran, husband of Janet, of Amelia Island, Florida; daughters: Jeanne Savage of Kamuela, Hawaii, Kristina Pasquale, wife of William, of Chester Springs, PA, and Jaclyn Moran of Wyomissing, PA; and grandchildren: Kelly, Eddie, Kate, Grace, Gabriel, Genevieve, Ellie, and Danielle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive , Reading, PA 19609. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, April 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, and again on Saturday at St. Ignatius Loyola RCC from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
