Edward W. Mench

Edward W. Mench, Sr, 83, died October 26, 2007 in his Laureldale residence.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Peter W. and Frances Anna (Stenekinious) Mench.

Edward owned his own beer distributorship in the early 1950's; the first distributor in Laureldale. Later he worked at Parrish Press Steel for a number of years. He finished his career as a Senior Equipment Operator for Met-Ed for 34 years until his retirement.

Mr. Mench was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was an aviation machinist mate 3rd class and was assigned as a waste gunner. He flew 43 combat missions from the B 24 Liberator and was awarded the Air Medal. He was also the recipient of the European Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon and the the Victory Medal.

Ed was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

He was a member of the Goodwill and Central Fire Companies.

Ed was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Survivors include his son, Edward W.,Jr. husband of Marcia A. Mench, Laureldale; his four grandchildren, Joseph Mench, Reading, Erica Mench, Reading, Johanna Hill, Tampa, FL, and Tyler Hill, Jupiter, FL; and his great granddaughter, Ava Lewars.

He was predeceased by a daugher, Jerilyn Anne Hill, who died March 14, 2004.

Edward was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph W. Mench.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Susan G.
