Edward F. Materia

Edward F. Materia, 91, of Mt. Penn, died August 22 at 7:15 p.m. in Beverly Manor, Exeter Township where he had been since October 6, 1999.

His wife Rose B. (Blass) Materia died November 24, 2000.

Born in Lewistown, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose (Paratore) Materia.

Edward was the owner of Special Dry Cleaners and King Dry Cleaners both of Reading for 30 years. After owning the Dry Cleaners, he owned Hoffman's Dress Company, Reading. He also owned the Sunoco Gas Station of 8th and Oley Sts. in Reading. He owned numerous used car dealerships on Pottsville Pike, Madison Ave. (Muhlenberg Township), West Lawn, Kutztown Road (Reading) and Mount Penn.

Edward owned a hauling, tire and skid business, retiring in 1991. He owned the first pizza restaurant in Reading, Sorrento Pizza Co., in 1946.

He is a member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Exeter Township.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel, Mt. Penn. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
