Edward J. Levandowski, of Reading, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in the care of Reading Hospital. He was the son of the late Frank and Verna (Mazurkiewicz) Levandowski. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Kohl) Levandowski, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in June.
Graduate of Central Catholic High School '47, Edward earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in 1952 from Temple University School of Pharmacy where he was a member of Kappa Psi Fraternity. Following graduation, he received his license and served during the Korean War in the Medical Core as a registered hospital pharmacist. He was stationed at the Army War College Hospital where he received a written commendation from the medical staff for his professional duties as a hospital pharmacist.
After completing his tour of duty, he became the owner and operator of the Medical Arts Pharmacy on N. 5th Street, which he operated from 20 years. Following his ownership he was offered a managerial position with Thrift Drug, and he remained with Thrift until his retirement from Eckerd Drug in 1990.
Edward was a member of St. Paul's Parish. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, serving as Treasurer of the Berks Regional Holy Name Society for many years, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Elizabeth; their children: Edward (Nancy) of Pottstown; Susan Covone of Reading; and Matthew of Vermont; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra, and his brother, Frank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 151 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19601, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Visitation at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the start of mass. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, West Reading is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
