Edward F. Gardner, 80, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Audrey (Hamilton) Gardner, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Samuel Sr. and Lucinda (Ford) Gardner. Edward graduated Wallace High School Class of 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served four years, mostly at sea.
After his military service, he attended American International College (BA) and went on to study at the graduate level at Syracuse University and University of Pittsburgh. Before entering the financial services industry, he held various management positions at Atlantic Richfield Co. Edward worked as an investment advisor for over thirty years until his retirement in 2018.
He was active in the community as a member of the NAACP, American Legion, and past board member at Berks AIDS Network. Edward was also a former board member of Cooperative Extension for Pennsylvania State University, Leigh County.
He is survived by his wife Audrey; daughters, Tanya Gardner and Keecha Gardner, both of New York City, and Kendra Gardner, of Florence, Italy; brothers, Joseph and James Gardner; and sisters, Edith Williams, Beatrice Gardner and Elizabeth Fraser. He was preceded in death by brother Samuel Gardner Jr., and sisters, Ruth Gadsen and Miriam Alexander.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611. The family will receive friends and relatives from 11:00 a.m. until the service.
