Edward Gael Oswald, 79, of Laureldale, died November 8, 2008 in Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Betty Jane "Betsy" (Strubing) Oswald.
Born in Wood, PA, he was a son of the late Robert I. and Martha Fay (Johnson) Oswald.
He was a graduate of the American School, Chicago, IL and the Industrial Management Institute in 1957.
Mr. Oswald was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
Gael was an electrician for Reading Railroad, later Conrail for 37 1/2 years retiring in 1990. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He was a member of Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale, where he had served as a Deacon and Elder; and served on the property committee. He was also the head chef for the church dinners over many years.
Additionally, Mr. Oswald was a Scout Leader for Cub Scout Troop #124 and Troop #105, Laureldale; and coached baseball for the Muhlenberg Twp. Athletic Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edward Grant, husband of Maureen Oswald, Raleigh, NC; James R., husband of Susan E. Oswald, Spring Twp. and William D., husband of Melissa Oswald, Reading. One brother, Ernest L. Oswald, Temple and one sister, Donna L. Oswald, Reading; and three grandchildren, Meryn Noel, Lauren Marie and James William Oswald also survive him.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour before the service.
