Edward A. Ratajczak, 82, of Laureldale, passed away on November 1, 2025. Born in Reading, he was the son of Edward S. and Dorothy J. (Klempke) Ratajczak. He was the loving spouse of Margaret Jenine Ratajczak, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage, until her passing in 2021.
Known to some as Ed and to others as Sonny, he was a proud graduate of Reading High School. Ed dedicated his life to public service, working for Berks Heim as the Director of Safety, Security, and Services until his retirement in 2009. He also honorably served the community as the Berks County Fire Marshal. In addition, Ed served as an officer with the Deer Lake Police Department, where his commitment to protecting others continued to shine. His passion for safety and service also led him to become a firearms instructor.
Ed was a devoted member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, where he served humbly as an usher.
Ed's children will always remember him as the best dad-a man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and fill their home with love and joy. At Christmastime, their house transformed into Santa's Workshop, a reflection of his generosity and enthusiasm for the season. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love for his family, cherishing every moment spent together. He enjoyed good food, smooth jazz, and expressing his creative side by crafting silverware spoon jewelry, where his inner perfectionist truly shone.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Jacqueline J. Ratajczak-Boyer (Clint), of Laureldale, and Christine "Chrissy" F. Ratajczak (Joseph Kreider), of Reading. Also surviving are his siblings: Nancy A. Hill, Phyllis L. Shaffer, and Susan D. Leggiero (Chuck), his beloved black cat, Rudy and his grand dog, Finley.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11AM at Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory, 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple. Friends and family will be received from 10:30-11AM.
Kuhn Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ratajczak family. Condolences may be written online at KuhnFuneralHomes.com.
