Edna May Herb, 92, of Muhlenberg Township and formerly of 3210 Earl Street, Laureldale where she resided for 60 years, died November 12, 2009 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where she had been a patient since November 4, 2009.

She was married May 11, 1940 to Elwood Clyte Herb, who died July 21, 1981.

Born in her residence at 5113 Kutztown Road, Temple, on July 1, 1917, she was the youngest of eight children born to Jacob William and Laura Sussanna (Kerchner) Rahn.

She was a 50 year member of Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale.

Edna was employed as a topper for Rosedale Knitting Mills, Laureldale and worked for McCrory's Five and Ten in Reading during the war.

In 1958 she began working with her late husband at Elwood C. Herb's Produce in the Farmers, Kissingers Market at Penn and Cherry Streets in Reading, a business they owned and operated until its closing in 1981.

Edna was a very loving and devoted mother. During her earlier years she did a lot of crocheting of many kinds of beautiful doilies, dresser and table covers. She was also a great cook and baker.

Edna was an avid Phillies fan and really enjoyed watching the Phillies become the 2008 World Champions.

Edna is survived by a daughter, Leslyn Faye (Herb), wife of T. Robert Zajdowicz of Muhlenberg Township. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her seven siblings: Clara Victoria Seiber, Mabel Katherine Beswick, Jacob Martin Rahn, Ruth Hannah Miller, William Harold Rahn, Wilson Lester Rahn and Ida Irene Britigan.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale with the Reverend Richard A. Leiby officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Entombment will be in Laureldale Cemetery Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.
