Edmund Swiezak, 92, son of the late Karol Swiezak and the late Frances (Weszka) Swiezak born Sept 6, 1930 in Reading PA passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2023 surrounded by family. He attended Reading High and St Mary's grade school where he was an altar boy for 10 years. He became an accordion musician at the age of 10 starting his first band at 12 years old. By 18 he recorded 24 vinyl Polka and Jazz singles. In High School he played the tuba and later in his career, he became proficient in the bass and piano. He received a diploma in Business Administration from the Reading Business Institute at the age of 23. He continued to travel throughout the U.S. initially with the country western scene, having played with Roy Acuff, Lash Lame and Shorty Long at the Sante Fe Ranch. He followed Harry James' band into the upper Midwest and played on radio stations. He also worked with Larry Fotine, the arranger for Sammy Kaye, Guy Lombardo and Blue Barron. He later traveled and played big band music; he also performed dance music with his trio band called The Enerjets. For five summers, he took the stage after Bill Haley and the Comets in Wildwood, NJ with his then band named the X-Spurts.
At 28 he quit the road band and married his former wife Jean (Appel) Bauder, and got employed at the old Western Electric in Allentown; while there, he opened an accordion teaching studio. On weekends he traveled to Wildwood, NJ to perform. He retired from Lucent (Western Electric) in 1994 after 35 years as a corporate accountant and also performed with Ginger and Joe Sharkazy at the Fireside in Bethlehem and at the City Vu Diner in Whitehall. In 1994 he joined the Stardusters trio band for 12 years. Upon his retirement, he was the treasurer at the Polish Falcons Club in Reading for 25 years. He was also the treasurer at the Hogan's Irish Social Club in Allentown for 20 years. His devoted companion of 45 years, Margaret Boguslowski, passed away peacefully less than 24 hours after he passed.
His amazing life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Jeffrey Swiezak (wife Ella) of Whitehall; Timothy Swiezak (wife Maria) of Orwigsburg. Grandchildren: Ashley, Stephen, and Alyssa. Siblings: Anna Swiezak of Reading who preceded him in death 6/13/2019; Julia Theresa Rothermel of Hampton ME; John Swiezak (wife Barb) of Merritt Island FL; Frances Swiezak of Birdsboro PA. He will be forever missed.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am Monday June 19, 2023 at St. Mary's RC Church 250 S 12th St. Reading, PA. Viewing will be held from 9am until time of service. Burial will follow at Saint Mary's Polish Cemetery 801-849 Upland Ave.
