Edgar Charles Lloyd of Wyomissing died on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Highlands. He was 89.

Edgar was born in Reading. He was the son of the late Edgar Moses and Mildred (Wright) Lloyd.

He was the husband of Joan Erhard Lloyd. They celebrated 67 years of marriage on August 19, 2017.

Edgar was a 1945 graduate of Reading High School. He graduated from Penn State University in 1949 after serving two years in the United States Navy. Edgar graduated from Hahnemann Medical School in 1954. He practiced General Medicine in Reading for three years. He attended the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for a residency in Anesthesiology and received Diplomate of American Board of of Anesthesiology. He returned to Berks County to practice for 30 years at St. Joseph's and then Reading Hospital. Edgar was named Director of Anesthesiology at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, a position in which he served for 13 years. He was appointed Vice President & Medical Director at Reading Hospital from 1977-1999. Edgar was granted Fellow of American College of Physicians Executives; he was a member of American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Societies of Pennsylvania and Berks County, and American and Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiology.

Edgar enjoyed sports- golf, tennis, horse-racing and especially handball and racquetball- and played well into his retirement. He was big fan of Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. Pinochle was the favorite family game. He also enjoyed duplicate bridge attaining Gold Life Master and was a regular at the Reading Bridge Room.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons: Lawrence Lloyd (Reading), Stephen Lloyd (Aurora, Ohio), husband of Karen (Goldberg); Matthew Lloyd (Reading), husband of Sandi (Goldberg); and Dr. Benjamin Lloyd (Reading), husband of Cheryl (Reddy) and three daughters: Constance Lloyd (NYC, NY); Bernadette Lloyd-Sobolow, wife of Gary Sobolow (Wyncote, PA); and, Therese Lloyd McCoy, wife of John McCoy (Doylestown, PA). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters: Doris Sheeder, (Harold); Patricia Jones; and, Sarah (Sally) Lengel (Margaret Wilkins).

A viewing will be held Friday, November 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm at Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. with additional viewing in the chapel from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Reading. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to one of his parishes: St. Catharine of Siena Church in Exeter or St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Reading or to the Reading Health System Foundation, Sixth Avenue and Spruce Street, West Reading, PA 19611.
