Earl S. Oplinger

Earl S. Oplinger Jr., 73, of East Walnut Street, Shillington, died July 21 at 12:25 a.m. in his residence, following a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of Bonnie M. (Schloder) Oplinger.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Earl S. Sr. and Gertrude (Hilgert) Oplinger.

Oplinger had been employed for 37 years as a laborer by Glidden Paint Co., retiring in 1991. He was later employed as a part-time clerk in the Reading Hospital Thrift Shop.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Adamstown.

Oplinger was a 1947 graduate of Reading High School.

He was a veteran of both the Navy and the Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War.

He is also survived by a daughter, Susan M. Oplinger, Norristown, Montgomery County; and two sons, Cameron I., Wilmington, Del.; and Hans E., Berwyn, Chester County.

Other survivors include a brother, Robert L., Reading.

There are also five grandchildren.

Oplinger was predeceased by a son, Kurt A., on Feb. 4, 1998.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
