E. Richard Ziegenfuss

E. Richard Ziegenfuss, 92, of Laureldale died April 11, 2012 in his daughter's Laureldale residence.

He was the husband of Regina (Caruso) Ziegenfuss who died November 7, 2010. Geannie was the love of his life for over 68 years. She was his partner, friend, and lover.

Born November 8, 1919 in Reading, he was a son of the late Ralph W. and Elizabeth (Richards) Ziegenfuss.

Richard was a graduate of Wilson High School and a 1941 graduate of Albright College, earning his B.S. in Engineering and Chemistry. He also attended Temple University, majoring in Business Management.

During World War II, E. Richard was a test pilot for the military.

He was employed as an engineer with Metropolitan Edison Company for 47 years, retiring as consumer service manager in 1985.

Richard was a member of Holy Guardian Angel's R.C. Church, Hyde Park.

He was a member of Rotary Club of Muhlenberg, being a Paul Harris Fellow. A member from October 4, 1971 to present, he was inducted to be an Honorary Member in February of 2011.

Richard was also a member of the HOBO investment group for over 20 years.

Surviving is a daughter, Michele L. (Ziegenfuss), wife of Christopher P. Kile of Laureldale.

Other survivors include three grandchildren: Shanna N., wife of Stephan Mayo; Sasha M. and Joseph R. and four great grandchildren: Stephen Jr, Shakyla, Shyanna and Stefahn.

In addition, surviving are two nieces, Georgine Busch and Melody Malia; two nephews, Charles J. Manzella and Frank J., husband of Maureen Manzella; sisters-in-law, Harriett Ziegenfuss and Sally Caruso and cousins-in-law, Dolores Kite and August Nazzaro.

Richard was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. Ziegenfuss who died November 18, 2005; two brothers, Ralph and George Ziegenfuss; nephews, Joseph and Anthony Caruso; sister-in-law Rosemarie, wife of, "his best brother-in-law, friend and partner at cards he could ever have" Frank Manzella and, brother-in-law, Joseph F. Caruso.

Richard was the most loving, supportive and caring individual.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Hyde Park. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 and Wednesday morning from 9:00-9:30 in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
