E. Marie Shappell

E. Marie Shappell. 92 died October 12. 2014 in her home in Shoemakersville, PA. Marie was born on October 5th, 1922 in Perry Township and was the daughter of the late Howard S. and Herma L. (Miller) Yeager. Two husbands, Franklin L. Kunkle, a Purple Heart Recipient on July 19th, 1944 and Donald W. Shappell on April 22, 1991, predeceased her. Marie worked as a machine operator for many years at Globe Underwear. She was a member of St. Luke's Union Church, Shoemakersville, PA. As a young lady, Marie played bass fiddle in several bands that performed on W.E. E. U. and W.H.U.M. A sister, Helen Leibensperger, Topton, nephew and caregiver, Glenn Yeager, Muhlenberg Township, a niece, a nephew, and grand and great- grand nieces and nephews survive Marie. Caregiver and special friend, Carolyn Baver of Shoemakersville, and special friend Candy Brooks and her daughters also survive her. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16th, at 10:30 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg, PA. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Shoemakersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Union Church, Evangelical Church in America and the United Church of Christ, Fifth and Franklin Streets, Shoemakersville, PA. 19555.
