E. Willard Filer

E. Willard Filer, 88, of Ephrata and formerly of Spring Township, died October 30, 2006 at 5:41 pm in the Ephrata Hospital where he had been a patient since October 23rd.

He was the husband of Mary Louise Filer who died July 11, 1995.

Born on April 28, 1918 in Mercer, PA, he was a son of the late Enoch W. and Gertrude F. (Zinn) Filer.

He was a 1935 graduate of Mercer High School and a 1940 graduate of Grove City College, Mercer County.

Mr. Filer was employed a total of 46 years at U.S. Steel Company, General Electric and last employed at NGK Metals before retiring in 1986.

He was a chairman of the International Metallurgical Society in 1975 and also served as a chairman of the E28.10 committee for the ASTM Society from 1980 - 1986.

Mr. Filer is survived by three sons, Richard W. husband of Nancy J. Filer of Allentown, Lehigh County, Dr. Robert B. husband of Dr. Wanda D. Filer of York, PA and David M. husband of Shelley K. Filer of Wyomissing.

Other survivors include six grandchildren, Megan, Jeffrey, Adam, Melissa, Katherine and Rebecca.

Services will be Saturday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave, West Reading with the Rev. Jennnifer Keiser Knighton officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 am until time of service. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
