Dr. Brian A. Wummer M.D., 86, passed away on May 19, 2015 at the Highlands.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Leon and Margaret (Muringer) Wummer.
He was the widower of Helen T. (Palick) Wummer who passed away June 19, 2001.
Dr. Wummer graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School in 1946.
He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1946 to 1948 and served in Korea.
Dr. Wummer graduated from Villanova University in 1952 and Hahnemann Medical College Philadelphia in 1956. He served his internship at St. Joseph's Hospital, established his own private practice, and then was a founding member of the Conrad Weiser Medical Group. He was a physician to the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, and the Medical Director of the Leader Nursing Home.
Dr. Wummer was a President of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. He also served on numerous American Academy of Family Practice National Committees. He was President of the Berks County Association of the Hearing Impaired. Dr. Wummer retired in 1997.
He is survived by six children: Karl B., husband of Kathleen Wummer, Manhasset, NY; Mark A., husband of Amy Wummer, Reading; Paul D. Wummer, Allentown; Joel P., husband of Caprice Wummer, Castro Valley, CA; Neil E., husband of Grace Wummer, Haverford; Sara E. Wummer, Newton Square; two sisters: Joanne, wife of Ronald Smith, Mechanicsburg; Leona, wife of Dan Burger, Milton Florida; ten grandchildren: Jesse, Christopher, Maisie, Rachael, Adam, Elise, Margot, Jonathan, Brianna, Tatiana; and two great grandchildren: Olivia and Andrew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5:30 – 8:00 PM in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Contributions may be made to PA School of the Deaf, 100 W.
