Douglas Lee Hillard, 76, of Wyomissing, passed away January 24, 2023, at Country Meadows. He was the loving husband of Karen L. (Cornell) Hillard. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Claud and Ida (Benedict) Hillard.
Douglas graduated from Owen J. Robert's High School in 1964. He attended Elizabethtown College, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. After graduation, in the fall of 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army. Douglas graduated from OCS in 1969 and joined the Signal Core as an officer. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1972 and was Honorably discharged at the rank of Captain serving in the Signal Core.
Douglas will be remembered for many things, his sense of humor, love of music and photography. He was a hardworking man, an audiophile, whose passion for music led him to a dedicated career in radiobroadcasting. Douglas's media career spanned over four decades. He was the manager for WLEV and WAEB in Allentown. He was also a general manager for WFRE in Fredrick, MD.
Most importantly, Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend; he will be missed by all who knew him. Especially by his devoted wife, companion, and friend, Karen.
In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by five children, son, Benjamin Douglas Hillard and his wife Heather of Valley View, PA; Daughter, Lara (Hillard) Leizear and husband John of Frederick, MD; son, George Dunda and his wife Miranda of Wyomissing, PA; son, Jim Dunda and his wife Corinne of Wyomissing, PA; daughter, Holly Dunda of Wyomissing, PA. He is also survived by two sisters, Susan Spangler and husband Donald of Charleston, SC and Judy Kline of Cherry Hill, NJ; his grandchildren: Kyle, Owen, Truman, Nathan, Jesse, Morgan, George, Josslyn, Adria, Brooke, and Kaitlyn, and great grandchildren: Alaina, Elizabeth, Kaylee and Legend.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services in the funeral home chapel from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
