Dorothy A. Wertz

Dorothy A. (Burkhart) Wertz, 84, formerly of Shoemakersville, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Maidencreek Place surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was predeceased by Jack, the love of her life for 59 years, in November 2018.

Born in Strausstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Daisy (Shupp) Burkhart. She was a graduate of Hamburg High School.

Dorothy was employed by the Hamburg Area School District as an Employee Benefits Coordinator until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shoemakersville, where she sang in the church choir. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, singing, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Daryl J., husband of Karen L. (Kauffman) Wertz, Bernville; daughter, Cheri (Wertz), wife of Mike Faust, Shoemakersville; grandchildren: Jennifer Faust, wife of Andrew Kulp, Adam Faust, Rachel (Faust), wife of Neil K. Shirk, Jr., Amanda Wertz, fiance of Justin Riegel, and Cody Wertz; and great-granddaughters: Cali Shirk, Alaina Shirk and Rylee Riegel.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Oliver; and a sister, Linda Albers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 354 Zion Church Road, Shoemakersville, PA, 19555. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery in Shoemakersville.
