Dorothy Wade Kauffman

Dorothy (Altenderfer) Wade Kauffman, 86, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died September 29, 2009 in Camden County Health Services Center, Blackwood, NJ.

She was the widow of Francis Kauffman who died in 1997.

Born April 29, 1923 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Bertha (Sweigert) Altenderfer.

Dorothy was a graduate of Reading High School and McCann's School of Business.

She was employed as a secretary with the Federal Government, Department of Defense at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. and later in Reading. In 1945 she married William H. Wade who died in 1991.

Dorothy was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Surviving are four children: JoAnne (Wade) Pepe, spouse of Suzanne Brundage of Mayfield, NY; Kevin L., husband of Gail (Holland) Wade of New Castle, DE; Gary K., husband of Gale (TarBush) Wade of Rochester Hills, MI and Cheryl B. (Wade), wife of Terry L. McCallum of Sewell, NJ.

In addition there is a sister, Bertha, widow of William Albert of Hamburg also surviving.

Other survivors include seven grandchildren: Pamela King, Andrea Wilder, Carrie Anne Vinson, Terry McCallum, Dugan McCallum, Lauren Wade and Sarah Wade and thirteen great grandchildren.

Dorothy was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Altenderfer and Harold Altenderfer.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
