Obituary

Dorothy L. (Warr) Shipe, 87, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2026, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. Born on November 17, 1938, at Reading Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Amelia (Cirulli) and Arthur Warr. Dorothy was the loving wife of W. Barry Shipe, who preceded her in death in 2016.

Dorothy was a 1956 graduate of Reading High School. She furthered her education at Kutztown University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964 and a Master of Education in 1966. She taught for many years, spending 27 years in second grade at 13th and Union Elementary School in the Reading School District. After retiring from teaching, she worked in the furniture department at Bon-Ton.

Dorothy found joy in watching Law & Order, getting lost in a good book, and going to lunch with her friends and family, always with a glass of wine in hand. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially during holidays, creating memories that will be treasured always.

Surviving are her daughters: Stacy, wife of William Gettel, of Rehrersburg; Karen, wife of Phillip Leibensperger, of Parker, CO; and Cheryl, wife of Dr. Benjamin Lloyd, of Wyomissing. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Matthew (Megan) Stewart, Patrick (Jessica) Stewart, Derek (Maddie) Stewart, Dr. Cameron (Alicia) Gettel, and Tyler (Anette) Reddy, Meredith (Eli) Edgerly, Lauren (Kevin) Urban and Brooke (Adam) Bross, and great-grandchildren: Amelia and Elliette Edgerly, Kenna and Andie Rose Stewart, Paul and Belle Dorothy Urban, Aviana and Sophia Gettel, and Adelynn and Paxton Bross.

Dorothy cherished her 82 year friendship with Carole Knoblauch. She looked forward to their Saturday morning talks.
