Dorothy A. Mooney

Dorothy A. ( Bergbauer) Mooney, age 86, passed away February 4, 2017, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was the beloved widow of longtime Reading radio and television broadcaster, and "voice" of Boscov's department stores, Frank Mooney, who passed away in 1991.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Dorothy was the youngest daughter of Albert and Catherine (Kennedy) Bergbauer. She was a graduate of J.W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. Upon graduation, Dorothy was employed by the Beneficial Savings Fund. After marriage, she moved with her husband to Reading, eventually settling in Whitfield.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Albert Bergbauer, Jr., and John Bergbauer; as well as her sister-in-law, Florence Bergbauer, and her brother-in-law, David Black.

Dorothy will be dearly missed by her two sisters, Sr. Corda Marie Bergbauer, O.S.F., Aston, PA, and Regina T. Black, Naples, FL; as well as her sister-in-law, Anne Bergbauer, Worcester, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a dedicated and loving mother to her seven children: Dr. Jane Longacre, wife of Dr. Stephen Longacre, Ambler, PA; Bernadette Grace, wife of Bradley Grace, Pittsburgh, PA; Claire Surhoff, wife of Richard Surhoff, III, Sinking Spring, PA; Frank Mooney, III, St. Petersburg, FL; Joseph Mooney, husband of Stacey, Pottsgrove, PA; John Mooney, husband of Melissa, Elizabethtown, PA; and Patricia Reppert, wife of Thomas Reppert, Sinking Spring, PA.

Dorothy was a doting grandmother to the joys of her life, her fourteen grandchildren: Bobbi Taylor; Becky Doyle; Colleen Longacre; Meghan Hall; Timothy Longacre; Monica Surhoff; Eleanor Surhoff; Richard Surhoff, IV; Jessica Reppert; Rebecca Reppert; Sean Mooney, Cathleen Mooney; Allyson Mooney; and Connor Mooney; and two great-grandchildren, Elsa and Finnegan Doyle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, West Lawn, PA, on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. Friends and relatives may call at the Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial to be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Corda Marie Bergbauer Scholarship Fund at Neumann University, Aston, PA.
