Dorothy M. Esposito

It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother, Dorothy Esposito, who passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026 at the age of 98.

Dorothy was born in Reading to immigrant parents of modest means. A turning point in her life came when she married Elias Esposito in 1953, a union that lasted 69 years.

In 1958, she gave birth to her first child, Anthony. Five years later, the second child, Linda, was born.

She forged a household marked by love and warmth, an outgrowth of her own kind and gentler nature. She lived for her family, and her life and family were so intertwined it is hard to imagine where one stopped and the other began.

At mealtime she hovered over the table like a hummingbird, imploring her family to eat and ready to dish out second helpings. She enjoyed baking, especially cookies around the holidays, and traveling on family vacations.

In later years, her grandchildren became a big part of her life as well. She spent many happy hours with them. You would always find her and Elias in the bleachers at the grandchildren’s sporting events and watching proudly at other milestones of their young lives.

The house was always decorated with meticulous care, a simple elegance, and always immaculate. It came from a fervor for cleanliness acquired during her upbringing. It was a home run with the quiet efficiency of a five-star hotel.

Beneath the unassuming exterior, there was always a vitality, a strength of spirit, and a joy in living.

Throughout her life, she was a devoted wife who had a quiet kind of unconditional love for her family and who worked with our father to make our childhood home a place that we will always fondly remember.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Anthony Esposito, husband of Jean Henshaw of Womelsdorf, daughter, Linda Izzo, wife of Dr. Domenic Jr. of Wyomissing, grandchildren: Michael, husband of Maura, Daniel, and David Izzo and Svetlana Esposito, great grandchildren: Lilah, Colton, and Graham, and sister, Irene Juzwiski of Wyomissing.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Elias Esposito, who passed in 2022, and brother, Theodore Juzwiski, husband of Lillian of Melrose, Massachusetts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Cemetery’s Chapel of St. George with entombment to follow. The viewing will be held from 10-10:30 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading.
