Doris Kershner Rapp, 90, crossed over on March 9 2024 at 5:31p.m. with her children sitting vigil by her bedside at the Tucson Veteran's Home in Arizona.
Born in Reading, Pennsylvania on April 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy E. Ahrensfield and biological father Charles H. Kershner, both also of Reading.
As a proud US Army Korean Veteran (1951-1954), Doris was discharged from the WAC as Corporal three years later and (not surprising from a family of veterans), continued her service in the Army Reserves from 1973 to 1976, retiring as a Sergeant. She was a Catholic by birth, a Christian by choice, and a seeker for Religious Truths who visited upon many religions.
Other Achievements included but surprisingly not limited to:
*National Defense Service Medal
*1st Female Federal Police Officer in Boston, Massachusetts
*Qualified Marks(wo)man
*Trained Minesweeper
* Contender (declined) to be the WAC 'face' for Enlistment Posters
*Holds a US patent
*Ordained Minister (non-denominational)
Accomplished Artist
Certifications in:
*Silversmithing
*Psychic Research
She is survived by four adult children: Jeri C. Callahan and husband Timothy (son for over 50 years), Jeffrey G. Rapp and wife Linda, Bryan S. Rapp, Brenda Doris Sabo and husband James. Additionally she has twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with beloved cousin Linda Koch and step-brother Anthony Antonucci Jr. and their families. A loving mother, friend, family member who is and will continue to be sorely missed.
Her ashes will be interred with Military Honors at Gethsemane Cemetery in Reading, PA, on her birthday, April 12th, 2024 at 1 pm, next to her mother, Dorothy aka Dottie.
