Doris (Dorie) Parsons Miller, age 88, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 in the Highlands of Wyomissing.
Born August 6, 1927 in Northampton County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred H. Parsons and the late Evelyn (Johnson) Parsons.
She was the beloved wife of Lewis E. Miller for 69 years.
A graduate of Bangor High School class of 1945, she served as Clerk of Bangor Daily News until the birth of her son.
She began drawing her pets and scenes of the beautiful Blue Mountain area when she was only eight years old. She later studied art at the Baum School in Allentown, PA with Dorothy Leonard and Mel Stark.
In addition to painting, Dorie was an avid reader and homemaker with a love of travel. Her family was always first in her attention and she loved seeing her son and grandchildren grow to adulthood and take their place in life.
Dorie was a member of the National Society of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, and spent many terms as secretary of the Berks County Chapter. She also founded their Daughter's Digest that kept members abreast of the Chapter's news.
She was a former member of the Women's Committee of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, lather the Symphony League, where she served on several committees and as secretary.
Dorie is survived by her husband, Lewis; a son Alex L. Miller and wife Nancy M. Miller of Huntingdon Valley, PA; a granddaughter Katie Miller of Philadelphia, PA and a grandson Dr. Eric Miller of Baltimore, MD.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Interment will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery.
