Doris J. Kunkel

Doris Jeanette Kunkel, 92, passed away February 12, 2012 in her Spring Township residence.

Her husband, Russell Calvin Kunkel, died in 1980.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jones and Jennie Mae (Clouser) Evans.

She was a 1937 graduate of Reading High School.

Doris was a volunteer for over 15 years at Community General Hospital.

She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Reading, where she helped organize a prayer shawl ministry.

She is survived by her two children: Gerald D., husband of Margaret S. Evans, West Reading and Doreen M., wife of Paul O. Moll, Spring Township and her seven grandchildren: Michael D. Kunkel, Thomas S., husband of Nena Evans, Kathy C., wife of Matthew Gettis, Steven P. Kunkel, Amy K. Evans, Beth J., wife of Donald Maurer and Heather K., wife of Timothy Krauss and ten great-grandchildren: Mitchell Gettis, Zachary Kunkel, Logan Gettis, Maia Kunkel, Charlotte Evans, Violet Evans, Noah Krauss, Alex Krauss, Jessica Maurer, and Hannah Krauss also survive her.

Doris was predeceased by her son, Russell J. Kunkel, her six sisters and four brothers.

A Memorial Service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Community United Church of Christ 3330 St. Lawrence Ave. Reading, PA 19606. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
