Dora L. Burkert

Dora Lucetta (Eschbach) Burkert, 84, of Reading, died February 4, 2009 at 10:30 p.m. in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where she had been a patient for two days.

Born February 9, 1924 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late James N. and Susan Elizabeth (Seidel) Eschbach.

She was the wife of Ellsworth Doyle Burkert, whom she married 15 years ago on July 10, 1993.

Dora was employed as a sewing machine operator at Temple Apparel for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of Salem Shalter Lutheran Church, Alsace Township and ILGWU (International Ladies Garment Workers Union).

Also surviving is a step-son, Ronald L., husband of Barbara A. (Fink) Burkert of Cumru Township.

Other survivors include a brother Forest S., husband of Gloria J. (Delp) Eshbach of Laureldale and two sisters, Mary, widow of Stewart F. Shuman and Laura, widow of William P. Kline, both of Blandon.

There are three step-grandchildren, Michele L., Melissa A. and Megan E.; and three step-great grandchildren, Anna G., Aiden L. and Gavin R. also surviving.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with Rev. Lesley J. Hand officiating. A viewing will be held a half-hour prior to services. Burial will be in Salem Shalter Cemetery, Alsace Township.
