Donald J. Vallere

Donald J. Vallere, 84, of Wyomissing, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, after complications from heart surgery. Born in Manhattan to the late Marius J. and Millie (Webb) Vallere, Don was the loving husband of Mary (Slaby) for 59 wonderful years.

After graduating from West Pittston High School in 1956, Don enlisted in the US Army, and was honorably discharged in 1959. He and Mary married in 1962 and started their family. In 1969 he graduated from Drexel University with his Bachelor of Science in Physics. He began his career with Western Electric (Lucent Technologies) in 1969, but his dedication to higher learning remained strong; he graduated in 1973 with a Master's of Science in Material Engineering. Don later earned his Masters of Business from Lehigh in 1984. He would retire in 1989 as the Marketing Manager of Lucent Technologies of Allentown.

A passionate and adventurous man, Don became certified as a scuba instructor after his retirement, and he served as an instructor for ScubaVenture until his 80th birthday. Don volunteered for many years with the Telford Volunteer Diving and Rescue Unit of Harleysville, and continued to support the unit even after he no longer could dive.

Civically minded, Don served as a volunteer census taker and a PIAA swimming official. He also regularly participated in programs with the American Red Cross.

Other passions include the Ham Radio Club, the Reading Beer Club, and all the Philadelphia sports teams. Don also enjoyed acrylic painting and was a member of the Art Plus gallery. His daughters fondly remember skiing and camping adventures with their father.

The world has truly been made better by Don and his efforts to support his community.

Don's memory will be treasured by his wife Mary, their daughters Donna Pick (Christopher) of Reston, VA, and Diane Vallere of Wyomissing, and grandson, Alexander Pick. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ann Louise Alaimo.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don's memory may be offered to the Telford Volunteer Diving and Rescue Unit, 2349 Shelly Rd, Harleysville PA 19438, or to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.

Friends are invited to gather with the family on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until noon at the Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading.
